Not sure if you’ve heard, but there’s an absolute wave of sandwich shops on the rise around Adelaide. Inspired by Melbourne’s deli culture, these new, old-school lunch bars tend to be centered around Mediterranean products and flavours, a.k.a. heaps of cured me*ts and che*ses.

Unfortunately for the vegans of Adelaide, not all of these hotspots have our community on their radar, but we’re here to tell you a few Italian sandwicheries that do. From seaside joints to hole-in-the-wall city locations, we’ve found nine of the best, Italianesque, vegan sandwiches in Adelaide so you can jump on the sammich train too. Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming toastie and sando guides – or take a look at our vegan banh mi and vegan Reuben sandwich recommendations while you wait.

Hold the phone – Dante’s Deli is the real deal. Not only is this seaside sandwich store easy on the eyes, it’s home to the juiciest vegan sandwich in Adelaide – napkins necessary. 2. West Oak Deli, Adelaide

It’d be rude not to at this stage – the West Oak Hotel team have taken it upon themselves to add a sandwich bar to their Hindley Street outpost. 4. Lucia’s Fine Foods, Adelaide

It’s panini o’clock at Lucia’s Fine Foods in the Adelaide Central Market. The pint-sized charcuterie bar assemble their rustic ‘Number 7’ – enjoyable to those that like a bit of chew and a crunch, thanks to the crusty panini style of bread. As for the filling, it’s on theme with: grilled eggplant, artichoke, tomato, basil pesto, and a decent lashing of olive oil. Further, Lucia’s Fine Foods’ neighbouring sister store is featured in our guide to the best cheap vegan eats under $15 in Adelaide – take a look.

Spice things up with a hint of Pinco’s chilli paste.
