1. Osteria Oggi, Adelaide

If you’ve got that fancy feeling, then make a beeline for Osteria Oggi. Lying low on Pirie Street – just a hop, skip, and a jump from Rundle Mall – Oggi serves as an oasis away from the city hullabaloo. With a world-class interior of neutral tones, a leafy overhanging, and shared dining tables within a piazza-like space, Osteria Oggi is a reimagined, Italian town square.

Fair play if your expectations are high – keep them that way. Oggi utilise the highest quality, seasonal produce and hand-make their pasta daily – and their vegan offering is no exception. A thick, smoked passata smothers al dente spaghetti along with Sicilian olives, tangy capers, chilli, and freshly plucked basil. The smoked passata is almost chorizo-like in flavour – each mouthful is one to savour.

2. Coccobello, Frewville

With a two-page plant-based menu, you’re not short of choices – but more importantly, there are two vegan pastas for your selecting – well, three if you include the gnocchi.

Indulge in what is truly the best puttanesca in Adelaide, made with linguine, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, capers, chilli, parsley, and of course, basil. But if that doesn’t take your fancy, try the penne with eggplant, tomato, and basil. Both options can be made gluten-free too, win-win!

3. Market & Meander, Adelaide

Stop everything – vegan lasagne exists in Adelaide. Inside the recently developed Indigo Hotel near the Adelaide Central Market you’ll find the eccentric Market & Meander dining room. Vibrant decor adorns the space while modern Italian cuisine atop the plates.

Most notably, Market & Meander’s menu enlists a vegan and gluten-free lasagne, made with spinach, roasted butternut, soy bechamel, and nutritional yeast (or ‘nooch’ for the OG’s out there). But if you’re not feeling too adventurous, play it safe with the spaghetti aglio e olio, or the risotto with lemon ric*tta, and charred broccolini.

4. Nonna & I, Adelaide

‘Come hungry, leave happy’, that’s the motto Nonna & I live by, and thus far, we can’t fault it. Boasting a multitude of TV appearances, rest assured knowing that Nonna & I have a few tricks up their sleeve when it comes to vegan pasta in Adelaide.

From their new restaurant on Pulteney Street in the CBD, Nonna & I concoct a whopping four pasta dishes from their dedicated vegan menu. There’s the: primavera with creamy sauce, pumpkin-stuffed ravioli in rosé sauce (add the pr*wns for sure), sausage fettuccine, and neapolitana me*tballs over fettuccine.

5. Godi La Vita, Hyde Park

Don’t go for the cheese wheel pasta, go for Godi La Vita’s leafy setting that’s complete with red roses comin’ out the wazoo. Admittedly, there is just the one pasta on Godi La Vita’s menu, but they sure do make it count.

Here lies the gluten-free penne puttanesca, made with corn penne, tomato, olives, raw zucchini, and basil. It may sound simple, but quite frankly it’s dope. Fresh cherry tomatoes tang it up, while the combination of whole green and black olives give a fatty element to the dish.

And who knows – maybe with more of us plant-eaters heading in and requesting alternative vegan options, Goda La Vita just might grace us with another sensational pasta.

6. Midnight Spaghetti, Adelaide

A hug in a bowl – that’s Midnight Spaghetti for the East End dwellers of Adelaide’s late-night scene. Conveniently plonked upstairs the Crown & Anchor pub on Grenfell Street, Midnight Spaghetti welcomes all to their old-school, wood-clad, rock music-playing haven.

Get comfy in a booth or perch yourself on the spacious balcony and tuck into one of three pasta feasts. There’s the: alla vodka with pappardelle, vodka, creamy lemon sauce, and chives, the semi-dried tomato pesto pasta with cashews, as well as the ol’ faithful ‘midnight spaghetti’ with kalamata olives, chilli, and fried breadcrumbs. They’re all $15 on Wednesdays too!

7. Francesco’s Osteria, Torrensville

Step into the welcoming Italian hideout that is Francesco’s Osteria. The Torrensville restauro specialises in Venetian soul food and dang can you taste the soul in every bite. Francesco’s is big on local produce and brings organic ingredients to the forefront when viable.

With a separate vegan menu to boot, Franceso’s offers up two pasta dishes as well as an extremely saucy lasagne. Delve deep into the pomodoro pappardelle with house tomato sugo, olives, pangrattato, and chilli, or the pappardelle pesto with basil, pine nuts, and cherry tomatoes. We cheekily add some olives to our pesto order – it’s our favourite in Adelaide!

8. Nido Bar & Pasta, Hyde Park

It’s the moody, minimalist hideout that everyone’s talking’ ’bout. Nido Bar & Pasta is fit with an open kitchen which is great for your scoping needs, along with plenty of neutral tones and straight lines. Sans straight pasta – only curves up in here.

Nido make their own vegan spaghetti in-house with an accompanying sugo-based sauce that employs the freshest of tomatoes, or a spaghetti aglio e olio, alternatively. Sometimes less is more, but you can also get your hands on a number of other vegan dishes at Nido if you’re feeling that more is actually more.
