The days start comin’ and they don’t stop comin’ – that’s the 2024 vibe – which means Mother’s Day in Adelaide is just around the corner. Sunday 12 May is the date to jot down in your calendar if you’re one to celebrate – and if you are one to celebrate via the medium of restaurant, you should probably get a booking underway.

If you’re lucky enough to have someone close to your heart that you’re able to honour Mother’s Day in Adelaide with, there are seven hotspots where you can rest assured knowing you’re in safe hands when it comes to class plant-based dining.

1. Herringbone Restaurant, Adelaide

Complete with an indoor tree that shades you whilst you dine, Herringbone Restaurant is a vegan’s dream as far as interior design goes. The Halifax Street eatery stands by its earth-to-table approach and utilises what’s in season and what’s good across all months of the year.

Vegans aren’t a second thought either, Herringbone plates up carefully crafted dishes that are equally as satisfying for both your taste buds and eye balls. Plus, if you’re particularly starving, Herringbone offers a degustation menu to boot, as seen in our guide to the best vegan degustation menus in Adelaide.

2. Africola, Adelaide

Nestled along Adelaide’s spiffy East Terrace dining strip sits Africola – a groovy South African-inspired restaurant with the whole kit and caboodle. Not only can you expect exquisite cuisine, but all five of your senses will be abuzz amongst flamboyant artworks, eccentric decor, tasteful tunes, and herbaceous aromas.

Seasonality plays a mammoth role in Africola’s rotating menu, but never fear, there’s an eternal section devoted to vegetables. Go full steam ahead into flavourtown with the dahl aside coconut and coriander chutney, or float steadily around the stratosphere with the mushroom, white bean, and chilli crisp. The degustation menu will have you well and truly on your way to the moon – godspeed. Check out our guide to the best restaurants in Adelaide’s East End here.

With a feature in our guide to the best vegan-friendly restaurants in Adelaide’s West End, Aurora Restaurant quite frankly turns on the heat, having won a multitude of awards since their 2021 inception. Aurora pride themselves on embracing local produce and curating memorable dining experiences for all to relish.

Plant-eaters aren’t treated as a burden either, with the restaurant boasting a dedicated vegan menu. Put your decision-making hat on and choose from the a la carte list or get inspired by the five-course tasting menu. Aurora’s previous menu saw the likes of a smoked lion’s mane with daikon, mushroom and Jerusalem artichoke. Big yes.

A mere 15-minute drive east from Adelaide’s city centre lies the world-renowned Penfolds vineyard and winery. Housed within the grounds are a number of eateries and drinking experiences, and Magill Estate Kitchen (MEK) is just one that caters for cruelty-free diners.
