Believe is or not, some vegans genuinely like the taste and mouthfeel of me*t. But as it happens, some individuals put their morals, environmental responsibility, and health above all and opt to exclude animal products from their diet, and as a result, go vegan.

Luckily for those people, it’s 2023 and me*t alternatives are comin’ from left, right, and centre – fried chick*n included. On a whole, Korean fried chick*n (KFC) steals the show, with one small bar in Adelaide’s city centre throwing us a curveball. So, whether it’s during the lunchtime rush or in the midnight hour, there’s an eatery that has got you covered for your fix of vegan fried chick*n in Adelaide – take a look.

1. K-pub, Adelaide

An obvious choice for some, but a great choice nonetheless. K-pub is a hotspot for a reason, and we’re narrowing it down due to their juicy, Korean fried chick*n which is said to be the best in Adelaide. The chunky bits of deep-fried goodness come with your choice of sauce: soy and maple, sweet chilli, and volkano for the brave at heart, or keep it simple stupid with the original. Your mound of chick*n comes with a serving of with pickled daikon which cuts through the decadent mouthfuls.

2. CnB Chicken ‘n’ Burger, Various Locations

Another Korean eatery here with some bangin’ Korean fried chick*n in Adelaide. CnB Chicken ‘n’ Burger are fryin’ up bite-size pieces of vegan KFC from their Rundle Mall, Norwood, and Gilles Plains outlets. The crispy morsels are slathered in either: secret sticky soy, garlic soy, sweet chilli, or hot and spicy sauce, along with a lil’ sprinkling of sesame seeds for that…je ne sais quoi, if you will.

3. Ban Ban, Various Locations

An oldie, but a goodie – Ban Ban’s fried chick*n has been around for years, and there’s a reason it has lasted on their menus. Resembling more-so a popcorn chick*n-style of KFC, Ban Ban isn’t shy to load the plate high. The bouncy bits of boneless bites are again, paired with a side of pickled daikon for a tangy burst of flavour amongst the heavy chick*n.

4. Plus 82 Pocha and Plus 82 Lite, Adelaide

Casual Korean dining mixed with big flavours – that’s the dream. Plus 82 Pocha and their takeaway sister store, Plus 82 Lite are both conveniently located in Adelaide’s CBD on Grenfell Street and Gawler Place, respectively.

The finger lickin’ good, nugget-sized bits of fried chick*n are crisp, to say the least, and embody that certain chew and stringiness that one may crave from time-to-time. The garlic soy sauce is simply a divine addition, and you can even get your chick*n served over sweet potato noodles.

Where: 3/25 Grenfell St, and 104 Gawler Pl, Adelaide

5. Brklyn, Adelaide

Curveball – not a Korean eatery. Small, New York-esque bar, Brklyn on Rundle Street know exactly what snacking is about. Amongst the vegan options on their menu, house-made fried chick*n is a standout. Paired with a sharp ‘comeback’ sauce, Brklyn’s fried chick*n is said to be the closest thing to Kentucy Fried Chicken’s crispy strips out there. Perch yourself on the balcony overlooking Rundle Street, sip a negroni, and indulge in some fatty goodness.
